80% of COVID-19 patients in Spain had vitamin D deficiency!

The research found 200 COVID-19 cases patients in a hospital in Spain and it was established that about 80 percent of patients had vitamin D insufficiency. The study was printed in the Journal of Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism did not find any relationship between vitamin D concentrations or vitamin deficiency and the severity of the disease.

The scientists established 80 percent of 216 COVID-19 patients at the Hospital Universitario Marques with vitamin D insufficiency and men had lower vitamin D quantity levels than women. COVID-19 patients with lower vitamin D quantity levels also had uplifted serum levels of inflammatory markers such as ferritin and D-dimer. Vitamin D therapy should be advised to the COVID-19 patients with vitamin D insufficiency flowing in the blood since these methods might have benefits in both the musculoskeletal and the immune response.

A few methods are to associate and cure vitamin D deficiency, especially in vulnerable individuals such as the elderly, patients with comorbidities, and nursing home residents, who are the main target population for the COVID-19. Vitamin D manages blood calcium concentration and affects the immune system. Vitamin D insufficiency has been associated with a variety of health issues, although research is still in the process of why the hormone affects other systems of the body. Many studies point to the helpful effect of Vitamin D on the immune system, especially regarding safety against infections.
