Recently Bollywood released a controversial song for an upcoming film Khaali Peeli. The song is named Beyonce Sharma Jayegi and it has become viral all over the social media ever since. The song came under the spotlight for its racial lyrics.
The controversy spread quite widely and the song name got changed twice. Bollywood has many songs that have racist words like ‘Goriye’ in its lyrics, but no one thought this would trigger the fans of Beyonce. The Director of the movie Khaali Peeli, Maqbool Khan finally reacted to the controversy. The song is composed by Vishal-Shekar sung by Nakash Aziz and Neeti Mohan and features lyricists Kumaar and Raj Shekar. Maqbool Khan said that their intention was never to hurt anybody’s sentiment, but certain people got hurt and they apologize for doing so. He said that making songs is a creative job and people will have different perspectives.
Maqbool also said that it never occurred to them that the word ‘Goriya’ would address someone’s skin color. There are many songs like Gori Tera Gaon Bada Pyaara, Chura Ke Dil Mera Goriya Chali. He also informed the audience that they have replaced the word Beyonce with the word Duniya and it fits right. This is the second time the name of the song gets changed. Earlier the name was Beyonce Sharma Jayegi, then they changed it to Duniya Sharma Jayegi.
