Attorney General, K. K. Venugopal, the highest law officer in the country, made his decision by dismissing the plea to imitate any criminal proceedings against the Bollywood actress Swara Bhaskar.
Recently, Swara Bhaskar’s comments on the Supreme Court's verdict on the Babri masjid and Ayodhya triggered some people. Her comment included the words 'Derogatory', 'Scandalous' and 'an attack on the institution' but the Attorney General clarified that the comments Swara said were her own opinion and perception; it did not question the Supreme Court or deteriorated the court's image. So, the comments did not constitute any criminal contempt.
Swara Bhaskar's statement was, 'We are living in a country where the supreme court of our country states that the demolition of Babri masjid was unlawful and in the same judgment, rewards the same people who brought down the mosque', she said this statement when she attended a panel discussion organized by the Mumbai collective.
The petitioner was Usha Shetty who filed on August 18, 2020, asking for the Attorney General's permission on contempt charges and on August 21 2020, the case was denied. On August 23 Bhushan also tweeted and shared his opinion and congratulated, the tweet reads: 'Kudos to the AG Mr. Venugopal for boldly asserting his independent position as a constitutional authority and refusing permission to the malafide attempt to charge @ReallySwara for contempt of court'
