Bollywood's relationship with the neighbour-cum-foe! Stars origin across the border. Know more!

Our favourite celebs have different origins from different countries and continents. Celebs like Shehenshah of Bollywood Amitabh Bachchan, Gulzar, Dev Anand, Amrish Puri, Prem Chopra, Hritik Roshan, Sashi Kapoor, Dilip Kumar and many more share common roots, that is Pakistan.

One's known as the "City of Men"(Purushapura) now called Peshawar is the origin of many great stars. One of them is a great producer, philanthropist and a well-known actor of their time, Mohammed Yusuf Khan, professionally known as Dilip Kumar gave numerous hits to Indian Film Industry. The God of acting, Dilip Kumar was honoured by 'Nishan-E-Imtiaz' which is Pakistan's highest civilian award, later created a huge controversy in the industry. Shiv Sena demanded Kumar to return the award for being an Indian actor. Despite all controversies, Kumar decided to write a letter to the Former PM of India, Lt Atal Bihari Vajpayee counteracting that "If the PM thinks that the award injures or lowers the prestige of India then I will surrender it." He never then capitulated.

Recently Dilip Kumar urged his Pakistani fans to share pics of his dilapidated former ancestral address 'Qissa Khwani Bazaar' in Peshawar. One of his Pakistani Fans even reverted him back by sharing pictures of the same and writing "Ancestral house of #DilipKumar." Kumar shared it and wrote "Thank you for sharing this. Requesting all in #Peshawar to share photos of my ancestral house(if you have clicked the pic) and tag #DilipKumar."

Not only Dilip Kumar, a pioneer of Indian theatre, the actor of the silent era of the Hindi film industry, Prithviraj Kapoor and 'Mera Naam Joker' actor Raj Kapoor also track down their origin in this part of Peshawar. Peshawar was cardinal to Dilip Kumar's friendship with Raj Kapoor. These two extremely talented stars of Indian film Industry were next-doors across the border. Also the King Khan of Bollywood, Shah Rukh Khan has their paternal family inhabit from this part of Peshawar. Even an Indian actor, writer, director and producer, who was known for his great endowment to Hindi film industry, Lt Dev Anand shared his strong ancestral roots in Pakistan. Famous actress Sadhna was born in Karachi well known for her Indian films back then.

Famous Indian lyricist, poet, author, film director and screenwriter, Sampooran Singh Kalra, known as Gulzar has his origin from Jhelum, Pakistan along with Khalnayak of Bollywood Sanjay Dutt. He marked down some of the magnificent scripts and lyrics for Bollywood. His 'Dil Se Re' won multitudinous National and Filmfare Awards. He also directed a few movies of the 80s and 90s like 'Ijazat'(1987), 'Lekin'(1991) and 'Machis'(1996).

BJP leader Baijayant Jay Panda claimed that Bollywood has got links with anti-India personages of Pakistan and ISI last year. As per the news delineated, Badshah of Bollywood Shah Rukh Khan and IIFA awardee for Best Music Director, Guru Randhawa share contacts with Rehan Siddiqui and Tony Ashai, who were accused of making callous and incendiary anti-India statements. They were also put on trial for funding terror activities in Jammu and Kashmir. News reports also mentioned that Gauri Khan, wife of Shah Rukh Khan shared business relations and planned tours with Ashai. Stars like Udit Narayan, Diljit Dosanjh and Salman Khan on being questioned about performing concerts organised by Siddiqui abroad replied cancelling the tours.
