Eoin takes over KKR captaincy, also know the list of captains changed midseason!
By S Sai Jagannath
Two-time IPL winner KKR are having a tough IPL campaign this year. With a not so sure team line up, KKR has been struggling to hit their rhythm in the tournament yet. KKR have won only 4 out of 8 matches and have been off-balance quiet lately.
It's well known that when a team doesn't perform well and especially in such big tournaments Captain has a lot to take for. KKR haven't found their right combination yet and in a hurry to improve team Dinesh Kartik took a lot of risk by shuffling players across the order. These changes cost KKR a few matches and no one was blamed except DK. Already with Eoin Morgan in the side who's a world cup winning captain, there have been a lot of questions raised regarding who should be the Captain. DK's stats haven't been quite up to the mark too. He's only scored 112 runs in 8 innings with an average of 14.0. He has scored only one fifty and was looking quite rusty during pressure situations. All these flaws piling up lead to the change in captaincy from DK to Eoin Morgan. Considering the future matches, team management removed DK and appointed Eoin as the captain for their 8th match against Mumbai which they lost quite terribly.
This is not the first time we've seen a change of captain midseason. There have been instances earlier too. Take a look at all the midseason captaincy changes:
Team Year Switch
DC 2012 Sangakara-White
RCB 2012 Vettori-Kohli
MI 2013 Ponting-Sharma
SRH 2014 Dhawan-Sammy
KXIP 2016 Miller-Vijay
DD 2018 Gambhir-Iyer
RR 2019 Rahane-Smith
Although the change of captaincy hasn't been quite successful if you don't have the right team. It all comes down to handling situations better as a team and winning games.
With KKR currently at 4th position, it's a tough job from now on to keep consistently winning games to qualify for playoffs. Eoin Morgan has to surely bring his A plan into the game to make magic and take Kolkata home.
