Kamala Harris, the Democratic Party’s Indian-origin vice presidential candidate will be delivering a speech on Thursday to counter President Trump’s speech which he made at the Republican National Convention after officially accepting the party’s presidential re-nomination. Harris will be speaking about Donald Trump’s failures to contain the Covid-19 situation and to protect the working families from the financial crisis they are facing. She would also be speaking about Biden Harris plan to contain the Covid-19 situation and to build a different path forward in America, as stated by The Hill from the press release of the Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden’s campaign.
As President Trump is planning to address his speech from the South Lawn of the White House lawn, here Harris’s speech from Washington DC would serve as the Democratic Party’s main counter to Trump’s appearance, as stated in the report.
In last week’s Democratic National Convention, both Biden and Harris spoke against President Trump’s leadership. As stated by Harris, 55, the first Indian-American and first Black woman to be chosen as a vice-presidential candidate for a significant political party in the U.S., “Donald Trump’s failure of leadership has cost lives and livelihoods.”
Democrats are hoping that Harris would be able to successfully present the case so that it can turn against Trump, running for the president second term while also appealing to Black women and other people of colour to vote for Biden Harris.
Kamala during a Washington Post’s report on the occasion of Women’s Equality Day comprehended the history of women’s struggle to realize voting rights, especially women of colour, even with the passage of the 19th Amendment in 1920, they were still not granted suffrage. Harris also alleged the Republicans are suppressing and attacking the voting rights of people of colour. They are positioning new suppressive Voter ID laws, racial gerrymandering, voter roll purges, precinct closures and reducing early voting days, all just to suppress the votes of communities of colour since the Supreme Court gutted the Voting Rights Act in 2013.
She also claimed that this year in-between the pandemic the Republicans spent millions on scare tactics and tricks to keep the people of colour on the hook. They took advantage of this situation and did all those things which President Trump wasn’t able to do till date. The Republicans are just spreading misinformation and rumours about voting by mail, which is supposed to be a safe and secure voting option and they have been caught trying to corrupt the US Postal Service, she said.
As stated by Harris, “We got to confirm that everybody eligible to vote is in a position to try to do so- which their vote is counted.’’
