The “Rain On Me” singer took home the Moon Person for Artist of the Year at the 2020 MTV Video Music Awards on Sunday of August 30, which aired remotely because of COVID-19 precautions. Gaga began her speech by saying that being an artist is that the only thing she had ever wanted to be in her whole life. She added that she never wanted to be anything else.
Lady Gaga mentioned that everyone always knew if they were hanging out with her that she wants to get on a mission to spread joy through culture, through dance, through music. She has written music her whole life which she felt so honoured that she gets to do this every day. She called her latest album Chormatica a “diary of a very dark time” in her head that has brought her such tons of joy. Gaga concluded herself by saying that “If we wish to win an award like this, don't eat the California roll so that they know we mean business”.
MTV congratulated Gaga on their Twitter account.
The 2020 Artist of the Year nominees included DaBaby, Justin Bieber, Lady Gaga, Megan Thee Stallion, Post Malone and thus The Weeknd.
