MS Dhoni to play BBL this year?

By S Sai Jagannath

MS Dhoni has achieved so much in his cricketing career that even the changing demands of the game and his growing age doesn't even seem to affect his selection whatsoever. His legacy and his sharp brain are still more than enough for him to play any big competition. Recently there has been a buzz going around that MSD just might play an overseas T20 tournament.

BBL is one of the biggest tournaments in the world. After IPL, Big Bash League is considered to be the biggest T20 tournament. The tournament takes place in Australia and includes players for all around the world. MSD retiring from International cricket is still a big shock for some die-hard fans but the inclusion of Dhoni in BBL can add a bit of relief for those die-hard fans. As directed by BCCI (Board of Cricket Control in India) no player currently playing for India or currently under the contract can play for any other tournament except the ones hosted by BCCI in India. There has been a lot of talks going around regarding the point that at least players should be allowed to play one league outside of India. The Indian team will travel to Australia this December to defend the Border-Gavaskar trophy playing 4 test matches after a limited-over series.

The BBL is designed in a way where there can be only 2 International players and the rest will be their local players. While there will be a lot of ongoing International cricket the association has allowed clubs to sign three International players in their XI and the BBL clubs are looking forward to signing MS Dhoni, Suresh Raina and Yuvraj Singh in their team.

As all these three players have retired from international cricket they are likely to play for a club in BBL. Although they would have to get the certificate of NOC from BCCI. BCCI has made it clear earlier that any player who is part of IPL or India cannot take part in BBL even after players like Yuvraj and Raina have expressed their interests towards them. Hope we will receive some good news and will be able to see our favourite players in BBL.
