SRH overshadowed RR in yesterday's performance by an 8 wicket win. SRH have now jumped to No. 5 with 8 points tie with KXIP and RR although with a higher net run rate than the other two they take the 5th position just below KKR who have won five out of the 10 games they have played.
RR lost the toss and was put to bat first against SRH on a great surface with a thin layer of green grass on the top. Sanju Samson and Ben Stokes seemed to build a very good partnership until Samson was dismissed for 36 and thereafter Stokes who was bowled out by Rashid for 30 of 32 deliveries ending his misery. Steve Smith and Jos Buttler being the senior player's tried to steady the ship but gave away their wickets quite cheaply for 9 and 19 runs only. RR's batting star Rahul Tewatia failed to perform scoring only 2 off 3 deliveries while Riyan Parag and Jofra Archer did the ending rituals scoring 36 of 19 deliveries combined to take RR to a respectable total of 154 of 20 overs with the loss of 6 wickets.
While chasing has been the weak point for SRH this season they ought nothing but to be merciless in this game. SRH lost 2 quick wickets David Warner and Jonny Bairstow who are considered to be their tone setters. While the loss of 2wickets seemed to create a bit of problem for SRH, Manish Pandey being the experienced batsman took charge and played one of his best IPL innings scoring 83 of 47 deliveries hitting 8 sixes and 4 fours with a strike rate of just over 175. While Pandey seemed to take the charge Vijay Shankar who only played 4 matches before this game played a mature knock of 52 of 51 alongside Manish Pandey keeping the hopes of SRH alive for the playoffs.SRH finished the innings with still 11 balls to spare and seemed like nothing but a cakewalk to the end.
The match results seem to make a big impact on RR's chances to qualify for playoffs and making it even harder for other teams to compete in the upcoming matches. RR seems to have fallen short of their opportunities to qualify while KXIP and SRH still stand a fair chance to book their spot in the top four. While SRH looks forward to opportunities it'll be official that CSK won't qualify for playoffs if they lose against MI today which creates a small window for KKR, SRH and KXIP to compete a bit more. If CSK wins today this will get really exciting, hope you don't miss today's match.
