Pranab Mukherjee dies: PM Modi pays his homage to our beloved former president

Pranab Mukherjee died at 84. In his decades-long political career, Pranab Mukherjee served as a Member of Parliament seven times, serving in the cabinet of several prime ministers. In 2012, he was elected President of India.

President Ram Nath Kovind, Vice-President Venkaiah Naidu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi were among the dignitaries who paid their deference to former President Bharat Ratna Pranab Mukherjee on Tuesday. His body has been kept at his residence in the national capital. His last rites will be performed at the Lodi Road crematorium at 2 pm. The country is observing a seven-day morning period until September 6.

Mukherjee passed away Monday at the age of 84. In mid-August, he had undergone brain surgery at the Army Research and Referral hospital in New Delhi. Hours before his death, hospital authorities said his condition had deteriorated and he was in a state of septic shock due to a lung infection. Mukherjee’s death was announced by his son Abhijit Mukherjee.

In the last 5 decades, an eminent public figure, he always remained stuck to the ground irrespective of the exalted offices he held. He endeared himself to people across the political spectrum,” President Ram Nath Kovind said in a message.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi tweeted: “India grieves the passing away of Bharat Ratna Pranab Mukherjee. He has left an inexpressible mark on the development path to our nation. A Dynamite person, statesman, he was admired across all the political spectrum and all sections of society.”
